In the spring of 1999, NATO aircraft conducted OPERATION ALLIED FORCE against Yugoslavia in response to the Albanian ethnic cleansing that country was conducting. Known as NOBLE ANVIL in the US including Holloman AFB F-117A Nighthawks operating from Aviano AB in Northern Italy. One of those “Stink Bugs,” from the 49FW’s 7 FS at Holloman AFB, flying with the callsign VEGA 31, was returning to Aviano having released both its EGBU-27’s on target when it was engaged by a pair of SA-3 guided by modified radars. The first missile failed to fuse but the second functioned correctly severely damaging Vega 31 and forcing the pilot to eject.

F-117A 82-0806, the final Lot 4 production jet, flew 39 sorties during DESERT STORM and was on her 5th mission of ALLIED FORCE. It was the fourth day of the conflict, and she was flying as Vega 31. Nicknamed “Something Wicked” on her Weapon Bay Doors, she is shown as she was that evening.

Any Fighter Studios print can be customized with different squadron marking, different store configurations, names on the nose or canopy rail. To get yours started, click Personalized Print for more information or click Email with questions.
