Lockheed Martin F-117 Night Hawk Fine Art Aircraft Prints

Operated in the remote Nevada desert in secrecy for almost a decade, the F-117 introduced the world to “stealth” aircraft technology. Known variously as “Wobblin’ Goblin,” “the Black Jet,” “Cockroach,” and “Stink Bug,” she became an aviation rock star during OPERATION DESERT STORM during which the Black Jet’s were the only aircraft to drop ordnance within Baghdad city boundaries and dropped a significant portion of all precision weapons released.

In the spring of 1999, NATO aircraft conducted OPERATION ALLIED FORCE against Yugoslavia in response to the Albanian ethnic cleansing that country was conducting. Known as NOBLE ANVIL in the US including Holloman AFB F-117A Nighthawks operating from Aviano AB in Northern Italy. One of those “Stink Bugs,” from the 49FW’s 7 FS at Holloman AFB, flying with the callsign VEGA 31, was returning to Aviano having released both its EGBU-27’s on target when it was engaged by a pair of SA-3 guided by modified radars. The first missile failed to fuse but the second functioned correctly severely damaging Vega 31 and forcing the pilot to eject.

F-117A 82-0806, the final Lot 4 production jet, flew 39 sorties during DESERT STORM and was on her 5th mission of ALLIED FORCE. It was the fourth day of the conflict, and she was flying as Vega 31. Nicknamed “Something Wicked” on her Weapon Bay Doors, she is shown as she was that evening.

Delivered to the USAF in 1984, 82-0803 was the 19 Night Hawk produced and would go on to fly more combat sorties than any other Black Jet. Nicknamed "Unexpected Guest" with Weapon Bay door art of Betelgeuse riding a LGB, she would fly sorties in OPERATIONS JUST CAUSE, ALLIED FORCE, and DESERT STORM.

She is depicted ready for her 29th DESERT STORM mission while based a King Kahlid RSAFB, Saudi Arabia. She carries a very typical Black Jet load of a pair of GBU-27 lager guided bombs built with BLU-109 steel case penetrating weapons.

Unexpected Guest now serves in a place of honor as the F-117 display at the Regan Presidential Library in Simi Valley California.
