VMFA 121’s “Green Knights” gave up their F/A-18D’s for F-35B’s in 2012 and became the USMC’s first forward deployed Lightning II squadron in 2017 when they transferred to MCAS Iwakuni Japan.
Side number 01 is shown ready for a air-to-surface sortie in a permissive environment… fitted with her Luneberg reflectors. She carries a pair of GBU-31(v)2/B Mk 84 based JDAM’s and a pair of AIM-120C’s internally, and externally a pair of AIM-9X missiles, 4 x GBU-49(V)3/B enhanced Paveway laser guided bombs, and a GAU-22 gun pod on her centerline.
