The 421 FS was formed as a night fighter squadron WWII’s Pacific Theater and has participated in WWII, Vietnam, the Cold War, DESERT STORM, and the War on Terror. Since 1975 The Black Widows have called Utah’s Hill AFB home station, While there, the have flow the F-4, the F-16, and currently operate the F-35.
Along with her sister squadrons, they belong to the 388 Operations Group and currently posses that Group’s flag ship… tail 18-5456. Carrying her unique “388 OG” tail markings and spider/web tail stripe, she is depicted prepared for a Day -1 strike sortie with a single GBU-31 JDAM 2000 lb and 4 x GBU-39 SDB 250 lb class bombs carried internally For self-protection she additionally carries a pair of AIM-120D AMRAAM active radar missiles.
