A-10A Thunderbolt II 355 TFS Fightin' Falcons 354 TFW Myrtle Beach AFB

During OPERATION DESERT STORM, Myrtle Beach’s 355 TFS A-10A’s deployed to King Fahd International Airport, Saudi Arabia to form the 354 TFW (Provisional) which included 144 A-10 and OA-10 jets. During hostilities, the Warthog’s were credited with destroying 987 tanks, 1026 artillery pieces, 1306 trucks, 53 SCUD missiles and launchers, 2000 miscellaneous vehicles, and even shot down 2 helicopters… that’s over 37 targets destroyed per jet.
80-0158, carrying the GAU-8 “smoking” Hog called Falcon 1 is shown painted in the European One camouflage carried by the Warthogs during DESERT STORM. She’s loaded with 4 x AGM-65D IR Maverick missiles mounted on a pair of LAU-88 triple launch rails, 4 x GBU-87/B Combined Effects Munitions on her inner pylons, a pair of AIM-9M’s on Station 1 and a LAU-131 2.75 FFAR rocket pod on Station 2 with an ALQ-184 ECM Pod and SUU-30 Flare Dispenser on the opposite side outer stations, a Pave Penny Laser Tracking Pod on the cheek station and the ever potent GAU-8 cannon.
